Back to the Beginning

The happy news is that I ran today, actually ran! My MRI results came back and they weren't as bad as we thought they were going to be. Turns out, I only sprained my knee (waa waa, yep I feel like a big baby!)
I was actually terrified to get back on the treadmill. The first 10 minutes were really tough, I think mentally more than anything. I had to concentrate a whole lot on my stride, it still seems really goofy to me.
My cardio is gone. It looks like I'm start back to were I was 4 week before the injury. I'm bummed about that, but trying to get past it. Hopefully it won't take as long as I think it's going to take to get back to where I was before. Good thing there is still lots of time before the half marathon!

Still Out, and Frustrated

I'm still completely out because of a knee injury and very frustrated. I have my MRI on Tuesday, so hopefully things go on the fast track after that! I was in a car accident when I was a teenager and had glass in my knee as a result. At the time we thought that we got it out, but as it turns out, there is still some in there causing havoc! My doctor doesn't want me doing anything until they find out whats going on in there. I'm planning on the best outcome and hoping to run my first 5 k in May.

Getting Back to Work

Okay, so I haven't run since Tuesday last week because of the knee injury. I'm going to get back to it tomorrow. I'm a little nervous that I am going to have a small set back, not sure what to expect. Hopefully tomorrow isn't too harsh.

WARNING: Avoid Jump Ropes:)

I've been attending strength training classes every Wednesday and the class this week didn't go so well. We had several "stations" that we had to go through, nothing to scary. The least of my worries was 1 minute of jumping rope. Boy was I wrong! A few jumps into it and I had a horrible pain rip through my knee. I've been out for two days because of it and really, really bummed!

For the Love of Running

I think I'm starting to understand why people are so addicted to running. The half hour before I go out to run, I completely drag my feet, try to come up with excuses why I shouldn't go, etc. But half way through my run I realize that I'm fine, I'm not gonna die, etc. The last few minutes, I'm exhilarated. Then in the evening, I can't wait for my next run, wondering if I can go one minute longer, faster, etc. This running thing is so weird.

First Outdoor Run

Yesterday, I was able to run for the first time outdoors. It was a balmy 37 degrees here! I decided to take my dog with me, she's getting a little beefy. It was definately a challenge both to be outdoors on the ice and melted snow, but mostly because my dog was completely clueless. She kept cutting in front of me and wanted to run a heck of a lot faster than I was able. By mid run she had gotten the idea, but it's still going to take some work. I had to giggle when I finished, my ipod reported that I had run my fastest mile...with the dog pulling me the entire way! I think she'll be a great pace motivator.

Shoes

Okay, so I was not trying to subscribe to the idea that you had to pay $100 (or so) for a pair of running shoes. I went to Target and bought a pair of running shoes for $29. After a week of blisters and bruised feet, I gave up and splurged on a pair of $75 (on sale!) Nikes. So I tried them out today and they feel like running on pillows! Lesson learned.
